I've been enjoying the beginning of spring! With a long walk with my brother, whom I only see once every three months or so.
This morning I rode my bike to my dad's house to bake cakes for his birthday party tonight!

And I got the Afterlight App, which I love

Early mornings

Last year the boy and I woke up super early (because mice where eating their way through our tent!!) when we did a training walk for our Iceland trip. I just found the pictures of that morning and never posted them, so I thought I would do it now!

Love to listen - Björk

Yesterday I've rediscovered an old love of mine. When I was in my teens I used to listen to Björk's Vespertine all the time. But other cd's took it's place, until it recently crossed my path again. I've fallen in love again! She is such an amazing creature.

Last weekend spring finally arrived! It was such beautiful weather and I've made sure to enjoy every little bit of it. This includes a musical visit to the park with friends, caring for my plants on the balcony, buying yet another plant for my studio, healthy drinks and baking unhealthy but delicious cookies (no pictures of that alas)

Inspiration/ Francis Bacon vs. Chelsea Wolfe

Sometimes I get hit with an inspiration stick caused by other artists. Exactly this happened to me last night. So today I've been exploring this somewhat dark creativity high.
First I heard someone mention Francis Bacon, an artist probably known by many of you, but I had never seen his work. And when I did, wow, I don't think paintings have ever spoken to me in such a direct way.
When browsing the internet in search of information about Bacon I found a blog where I came across inspiration number two; the singer/song writer/band Chelsea Wolfe. Her music is dark, enchanting and narcotic and fits Francis Bacon perfect. So start the movie while looking at some paintings by Francis Bacon.

Portrait of Michel Leiris, 1976

Portrait of Lucian Freud, 1965

Paralytic Child Walking on all Fours, 1961

Study for the Head of a Screaming Pope, 1952

Three studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion, 1944

And a portrait of Chelsea Wolfe to close.

I've made portraits inspired by these two artists and might post them soon. This is all a bit darker than my normal blog-content, but sometimes you need to explore your dark side.

So I have been out and about for a little while. I had a few pieces of sad news to process, but right now I'm ready to let the creative energy back in again.
Today I worked in the studio most of the day. I've made some more portraits for my series and photographed vegetables, like this beautiful tomato. Apart from that I've enjoyed the first bit of real spring with a visit to the market. I'm only wearing flower dresses to convince spring to stay.
